Overview:
A Four-Day Class with information and tools you can immediately apply back on the job.
Gain an overview of federal grants topics and terminology, roles and responsibilities, and rules and regulations. Delve into administrative requirements and basic financial compliance requirements, including common problem areas and potential solutions. Learn about elements common to most grants as well as some of the unique requirements which require increased management attention. Discuss impact of transparency, accountability, and ARRA funding on grants as they are managed today and as they will need to be managed in the future. Part one of the three part series in grants management.

- Identify high-risk requirements for your organization and more
- Define common types of grants and grant-related terminology
- Interpret common administrative and cost requirements
- Develop a procedure for tracking grant requirements for multiple grants
Course Instructor - Mary Beth Saenz- has a BBA in Accounting from The University of Texas at Tyler. She has been an auditor for more than 9 years, performing external audits (for a public accounting firm in Tyler, TX), internal audits (as a senior auditor for The University of Texas System Administration), and public/governmental audits (as a senior auditor for the Texas State Auditors Office and as a member of a Federal Grant Review team). As an instructor, she has taught a variety of basic audit and grants classes, a technical math class for Austin Community College, designed compliance and performance content for web-based training, and conducted internal training courses.

Section 2 - Administrative Requirements
- Universities, Hospitals, and Non-profits: 2 CFR Part 215 Uniform Administrative
- Requirements for Grants and Agreements with Organizations (formerly A-110)
- State and Local Governments
- A-102 - Grants and Cooperative Agreements with State and Local Governments
- Common Rule for each agency (formerly attachments to A-102)
- Discuss selected administrative requirements and most common problems found
Day Three
Section 3 - Cost Principles
- Educational Institutions: 2 CFR Part 220 Cost Principles for Educational Institutions (formerly A-21)
- State and Local Governments: 2 CFR Part 225 Cost Principles for State, Local, and Indian
- Tribal Governments (formerly A-87)

Day Four
Section 4 - Effectively Ensuring Compliance
- Identify key steps that can help to ensure compliance with grant related requirements
- Create a plan for evaluating existing policies and procedures
Section 5 - Case Study
Introduce case study and work through a series of team exercises to identify:
lack of performance in roles and responsibilities, administrative compliance issues
cost principles; compliance issues; and appropriate next steps to prevent or detect future issues.
