    Course Description

In the Fundamentals of Human Resource Class, you will come away with a solid foundation of the principles and practices of Human Resources.

    This class will provide you with the fundamental foundation for all aspects of Human Resources including: HR employment law, workforce planning, the hiring process, compensation and benefits, performance management and employee relations, and staff development. This class will provide you with the latest information - both current laws and best practices.

    About Our Instructors:

    Matthew Levitt, SPHR is the HR Director at the Texas School for the Deaf and has twenty years of human resources management experience in Texas State Government. In addition to his directing agency HR operations, his statewide projects for all of Texas State Government have included: managing contractor data reporting, developing the online HR self-assessment guide, and managing the reporting and analysis of state employee turnover.

    He has been teaching college level business classes for fifteen years and was the 2006-2007 Alpha Sigma Lambda faculty inductee, as the outstanding instructor at Concordia University’s Accelerated Degree Program.

    He graduated from Antioch College with a Bachelor’s degree in economics and received his MBA from the University of Texas at Austin. He is a past president of the Texas State Human Resources Association and he received his Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification in 1997.

    Mark Majek, PHR has served as the Operations Director for the Texas Board of Nursing for the past 22 and 1/2 years. He has been in the state human resource trenches all that time and has real life experiences on translating state/federal HR laws into staff productivity. He has delivered over 50 classes to over 1,000 state agency employees and has taught the fundamentals class over the past five years. He is certified as a Professional in Human Resources by the Society of Human Resource Management and is the Board of Nursing HR Director.

    Mr. Majek graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a BA in Political Science and Czech Language and holds MA degree from Corpus Christi State University in Business and Communications. Mark is currently the Chair of the Small State Agency Task Force and serves on several state committees to provide feedback to policy makers on wellness and other state issues. He also serves a member of the Finance Committee for the National Council of State Boards of Nursing of which he was elected as a board member of that organization from 2001 though 2005.

    To cancel your registration from this course, please call or email the course contact listed below. If a cancellation is received after the cancellation date, the registrant will be charged $145 for course materials.

    If you are making travel plans to come to the training, please make "refundable" air and hotel reservations or wait until 14 days before the class to actually book your reservations. Courses are occasionally canceled or rescheduled due to low enrollment. We determine whether a course has enough participants approximately 16 days prior to the course date. If we cancel or reschedule, we will email the participant no later than 14 days before the original class date. Solutions Training will not pay for cancellation/change fees associated with travel and hotel arrangement changes.
